LASIK

One of the most exciting technological advances in vision care, LASIK has enabled more than 30 million people with a whole new outlook on life.

Bishop Eye Center now offers LASIK right here in the Lowcountry led by preeminent surgeon Dr. Paul Bell, MD. With the best technology, the best surgeons in the country, and best patient outcomes top of mind, LASIK provides us the opportunity to offer patients dependent on glasses or contacts, with or without astigmatism, increased visual freedom.

Am I a candidate for LASIK?

If you answer yes to the following questions, chances are you are a good LASIK candidate:

  • You are looking for an alternative to glasses or contacts.

  • You are 21+.

  • You have no health issues currently affecting your vision.

  • You do not have cataracts or glaucoma.

What results can I expect?

The majority of LASIK patients are able to eliminate the use of glasses or contact lenses in their daily lives. Of course, each patient is unique, not all outcomes are the same, and we cannot guarantee results. However, most LASIK patients report 100% satisfaction with the procedure, and many happily experience 20/20 vision or better.

What are the risks?

As with any surgical procedure, LASIK is not 100% risk-free. It’s a proven and extremely popular vision correction option, and our patient selection process is extremely precise, featuring state-of-the-art diagnostic testing and best physician eye care practices to determine candidacy. Utilizing iDesign 2.0, WaveLight Topolizer Vario, and Pentacam AXL technology, our world-renowned doctors are able to customize a treatment that is 100% unique to your eyes.

Will it hurt?

Thanks to numbing eye drops at the start of the procedure, LASIK is a nearly painless procedure. During the healing process, you may experience some redness or itching, but prescription medicated eye drops will help alleviate any discomfort and aid in recovery.

How long will recovery take?

The good news is recovery from LASIK is speedy. The day after surgery, you can return to normal routines and activities. Two days post-surgery you should be able to drive safely and clearly without the need for your glasses or contacts. At the end of one week – and during the following four weeks – your vision will continue to improve, getting better and better every day.

There will be a few limitations during the first week of your LASIK recovery process, including not participating in contact sports, swimming, wearing eye makeup, and rubbing your eyes. During this time, you will also need to use medicated eye drops as instructed by your doctor.
